The People I Want For Ministerial Positions — President Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on July 27 touched upon a currently sensitive issue for Nigerians as he spoke in Abuja on “Good Morning Nigeria” TV programme. The country leader was questioned about the highly anticipated appointment of ministers. Buhari, who has been under criticism over the delay in announcing the senior officials, said that only patriotic, decent and experienced people would form the cabinet, NAN reports. He also claimed that politicians and technocrats would make the list of nominees. It should be recalled that since Buhari’s inauguration on May 29, the talks about the ministerial list have continued without a break. Media have been reporting about the possible and likely candidates. The president, however, explained he did not want to hurry with such an important decision. In a recent development President Buhari wrote for the US Washington Post stating that the ministers would be appointed in September. Now number one politician discloses more about the personalities of the ministers-to-be-appointed. READ ALSO: How Nigeria Benefited From Buhari’s US Trip “From what I have seen so far, we need really patriotic Nigerians – Nigerians that can work very hard, knowledgeable, experienced, committed Nigerians – to be in charge of ministries. “A lot of the institutions of Nigeria – important institutions – were compromised. Everybody was for himself and God for all of us; its most unfortunate. “We have the people, educated people, experienced people but everybody seemed to be working for himself – how much he could get as much and as quick as possible. “We have to look for technocrats and we have to look for politicians and certainly we have to look for decent people in this class to give them the responsibility of being in charge of ministries and important parastatals (agencies).” Regarding the under-dealings in the oil and gas sector, Buhari vowed to find and punish those involved in illegal schemes. “The search continues; up to the third of this month, our crude was still being illegally lifted by people who are in government. We are trying to get these documents. We are getting the cooperation of the international community.

How To Be A Successful Entrepreneur

Jim McKelvey, an American computer science engineer and entrepreneur is the co-founder of Square, a mobile payments company. During his maiden visit to Nigeria, the world-acclaimed businessman was a guest speaker at Tech Plus Conference & Expo facilitated by MTN Nigeria and a host of other companies. In a media chat, he spoke with Femi Ayodele of Naija.com and other newsmen on how entrepreneurs can smell opportunity and how they can be more innovative What is your impression about Tech Plus Conference & Expo? This is a catalyst for change and improvement. We have a community of people that are supporting each other in the aspect of technological advancement so for Nigeria to build a similar community will be important and this is a good start. Jim McKelvey What should be the focus of a young entrepreneur seeking opportunities in technology? It is a big question. Your question is being particular about young entrepreneurs in Nigeria. I don’t know much about the young in Nigeria but in United States for instance, a 20-year-old have been raised with a lot of praise given the background. There is a lot of positive reinforcement through school and some of these people can start a company with immediate success. One of the important things as a young entrepreneur seeking to maximise opportunities in technology in Nigeria or any other part of the world is to learn not to accept defeat at the early stage. When I see a lot of people do that, they seem to focus on the current state: the unsuccessful state of technology. Most products that are innovative and are really world changing are meant for the future, built for something to come. They never worked like a big deal at the beginning. For instance, in the United States, everyone thought Square was going to fail. When we started people thought we would not get there. They dismissing the idea but It turned out that all these companies turned tremendously successful in spite of the fact it didn’t look like anything form the beginning. One of the things to remember as an entrepreneur is that you are not going to get feedback early. From your success story, what do you think is required to be a successful entrepreneur? The most critical thing is stubbornness, plain perseverance. Most of the time as an entrepreneur you are dealing with things that are not working. As a matter of fact, this is what you do as an engineer.

I ask for forgiveness from those we have offended. president Jonathan

While delivering his valedictory speech at the special thanksgiving and farewell service organized by Aso Villa Chapel yesterday May 17th, President Jonathan asked for forgiveness from those who might have felt offended by any of the moves his government made, stating that such moves were not intended to deliberately hurt anyone. He said no human institution is everperfect. He urged everyone to pursue work towards a better Nigeria even as they leave government positions.“No system is perfect. Every human system must have an element of imperfection. For the period of eight years that we have been here.I will take the period as a block because my transition from VP to President was gradual and complicated. It was intertwined so you cannot actually draw the line.Because when the President was challenged within major health issues, I was running the country forsometimes even before the doctrine of necessity made me as acting president. Then I took over at first and conducting the 2011 election I won and I had to run my full four years as an elected president. So for the eight that one has been there, definitely one is not perfect. We have certainly done things that probably we wouldn’t have done that way, but we didn’t do things deliberately. So for those who we have offended it was not deliberate, it was circumstances of the office. So we also plead that those people should forgive, we think we have done our best. You can do your best and yourfriends may misunderstand you.Today we are talking about leaving, it is only God that knows why thingsgo the way they do.We came in as Vice President and my wife, today we are leaving as theformer president and former First Lady. We have achieved it through you.Let me specifically thank the chaplain, the clergymen, the pastorsand their wives. For the past eight years we have every reason to be thankful to God. Every individual has his/her own calling.I also believe that people who take over political leadership have their own callings to do specific things. No one, head of a government, be it at the national level or the sub- regional levels can do every thing. But when you leave, you will want to do something to show that yes I was here. The chaplain has said that nothing is perfect, if you wait for perfection, you cannot achieve anything.Ordinarily 24th of May would havenbeen the last Service here. But that 24th, we will all go to the National Christian Centre for the inauguration service. So for me and my wife, this is our last day of worship here. Though we are leaving as president and First Lady, but we have not left you, because we are still in this country, we will continue to interact one wayor the other, probably along the line we may even come closer.I believe some of you may even come closer, and even do more meaningful things together when we leave office.I don’t really believe that it is only ingovernment that you can do thing, even outside government you do a lot of things. The richest people in the world don’t even serve in government.Dangote has never been in government, so you don’t need to bein government to be rich. Bill Gates has not been in government. So outside government a lot of things happen, it is for us to be committed and continue to be focus. Me and my wife really love all of you.”he said
